It seems like all of InfernoPlus’s hard work was worth it, as this hefty mod can certainly be considered one of the most ambitious ever for the decade-old game. Watch the Dark Souls gun mod on YouTube here. Unsurprisingly, InfernoPlus stated that this took an extremely long time to code and animate. With these new additions, the mod essentially turns the seminal fantasy action-RPG into a third-person shooter. Instead, the mod adds a completely new category of weapons featuring new mechanics and animations. Included in this mod are series staples like the Needler and Plasma Pistol. As Game Rant reports, the mod is not a mere model swap or reskin of current Dark Souls weapons.
Hacker and YouTuber InfernoPlus took this concept one step further by adding a host of high-tech sci-fi weaponry from Halo into Dark Souls. Dark Souls does offer some choices to players interested in projectile combat, but they are mostly restricted to crossbows, bows, and staffs. While both games feature fantasy elements and otherworldly monsters, Halo is much more akin to a typical science-fiction adventure story through both its visuals and gameplay mechanics. Halo, on the other hand, could arguably not be more different. The iconography of Dark Souls is striking and immediately recognizable for anyone who has experienced the series the medieval fantasy world is littered with genre-appropriate castles, swords, knights’ armor, and battleaxes, in addition to some eerier and more abstract landscapes and creatures. This is far from the first ambitious mod applied to Fromsoftware’s signature set of games, as crafty gamers have been doing crazy things like making Dark Souls and Bloodborne bosses fight each other for years now. An extremely impressive and talented modder was able to make some massive changes to how Dark Soulsoperates by adding a slew of assets from the Halofranchise.
